Rowing

For over 165 years, Shaw & Tenney has been crafting some of the finest wooden oars in the world right here in Orono, Maine. Built by hand on the same lathe that’s shaped our oars since 1858, each pair reflects a tradition of craftsmanship that values strength, balance, and beauty above all else.

We use only the finest native lumber, eastern red spruce and white ash, that deliver exceptional strength-to-weight ratios. The result is a responsive feel on the water, ensuring your rowing experience is both efficient and enjoyable.

Rowing isn’t just about propulsion, it’s about connection: to your boat, the water, and the rhythm of the stroke. We offer a variety of oars for different styles and boats. Each pair is crafted with the same attention to detail and timeless methods that generations have come to expect from our shop.

Every Shaw & Tenney oar is more than a tool—it’s a piece of maritime history, balanced and finished by modern artisans who understand that the feel of a well-made oar in your hands makes all the difference out on the water.
